POLY FEST LEARNING STORY

POLYFEST LEARNING STORY
On the 10th of August, Corinna School performed at Hosanna Church for Polyfest. What was polyfest you say?
Oh! Polyfest is when school or  College and University do dance, not like hip hop or ballerina, Cultural dance.
In polyfest we also have groups e.g. Maori, Samoa, Tokelau/Tuvalu, Cook island and
Kapa haka and in polyfest you represent your culture  too.

On the day I performed at Hosanna Church I was good at using the K.C. skills like Managing Self, Relating to others and Participating and contributing by Choosing appropriate behaviours to learn and improve, listening to the teacher’s instruction what to do, and Performing with confidence and flair for the audience.
Mel saw me using sharp actions and stepping up to take a risk, Sareta saw me being a role model for others to copy and Jhan saw me using lot’s of facial expressions like smiling.
I also saw others using their K.C. skill’s like Aria she used relating to others by being a role model for others to copy and I saw Mel working hard so she will know the song and dance and in Kapahaka I saw Claudia and Jillian taking a risk being leaders and being role model and not scared to do the pukana.
It was good to learn other student’s culture and next time I need to work on being patient and try not being shy.

Poly Club Learning Storie

Rendered Image

In the poly club, there was a Samoan adult called Pina has been teaching us different Pasifika dance like Samoan, Tonga, Hawaii, Cook island, and others.
When I first started poly club I was feeling very confident because I knew that Pina will teach us Samoan dances because she is Samoan, and I was right Pina taught us Samoan dance I thought that was it but Pina was actually teaching us Samoan dance AND Cook island dance it was PRETTY hard, the Cook Island actions was So hard and I did funny weird actions and people sometimes laugh at me when I get it wrong but anyways I don’t care because I’m still not giving up.
The K.C. (Key Competencies) I used at poly club was Managing self by listening to Pina when she is showing us the moves step-by-step so I don’t miss out any of the actions and so I don’t have to tell Pina to repeat it, and I also used Relating to others by encouraging others who don’t know the actions and sometimes friendly arguing with others about the actions like e.g. “this action goes to the left’’ ‘’ no I think it’s right’’ and then we solve the problem.

In Poly club was fun I get to learn cultural dance and learning other languages, that’s what I learnt.

Athletic's Learning storie

“When you feel like stopping, Think about why you started”
On the 27th of October, it was Athletics day, if you a wondering what is athletics well athletics has lot’s of different activities e.g. like Shot put, long jump, high jump, long distance, sprints, Discuss, and Voltex.
The first activity we did was sprinting which was not my thing but I tried my best and stayed calm, I got a silver which was great but next time I should listen carefully to the instructions that were told because I wasn’t listening at all and didn’t know what to do.
Then we moved on to long distance, I came third and I got a silver. I  tried my best I got tired along the way but I kept pushing myself to do my best. At the end, I was very proud of myself because I did not stop throughout the whole run. I think I could work on trying to pace myself, that means I go the same pace until the end so that I don’t get so tired after.

Next, we had high jump. I got bronzes because I was mucking around not trying my best and I didn’t really push myself, well I think next time I should try a bit more and put more strength to lift up my leg so I can get over the pole.
Straight after that, we had long jump, which is not my thing. For long jump I got bronze because the others were cheering up for me so loud that I couldn’t concentrate on my I running so next time I should tell the others don’t cheer for me loud but quiet and to take off my legs on the red mat, not the grass.

Now we got into throwing activity’s Voltex. I was pretty good because I got a Gold, I was good at holding the Voltex and throwing but not too high. I think next time I could work on not wasting all my power in the practice throw and just throw it softly but when it comes to the real throw I could try to throw it harder.

Our next throwing activity was Shot put, I think I did alright in the shot put I got a Silver.
I was good at holding the shot put and pushing it high but not throwing it. Next time I could try to stand a little bit closer to the line not way behind.
Now our last activity was Discuss I was not very good but I got a Silver which is good.
It was quite hard throwing the discus but in the second round, I did well. I need to work on bending my legs and put more power into it.

Throughout that whole day I think I did pretty good because I give everything a go but not try my hardest on everything and that is one thing I need to work on.
